Stan Hannan Rhodesia Unafraid Collection, 1976-1978.

The collection consists of two films: SHR 16mm 001: A Chaplain's Story, 1976, 20 minutes. Original 16mm black-and-white composite print with optical sound, produced by Stan Hannan in 1976 with the assistance of cameraman Martin Craemer ; SHR 16mm 002: Rhodesia Unafraid, 1978, 20 minutes. Original 16mm color composite print with optical sound, produced by Stan Hannan in 1978 with the assistance of Martin Craemer and Mike Hart-Jones. Rhodesia Unafraid was sponsored by the Rhodesian Army and the Ministry of Defense as part of their "Operation Springboard," to garner international support for the ailing Rhodesian government during the Rhodesian Bush War. Of particular interest is the appearance in the film of author Robin Moore (The French Connection, The Hunt for Bin Laden).

Stan Hannan was born in Livingstone, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1945, and grew up in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). When Ian Smith's government declared independence from Britain in 1965 (the U.D.I. - Unilateral Declaration of Independence), Hannan was in the Police Anti-Terrorist Unit, spending his mandatory national service patrolling the borders of Rhodesia against increasing unrest during the early stages of the Rhodesian Bush War.
